Match 1 13 May 2012 1PM Pitch 1
The Eleven ISS Flyers’ first fixture of the 2012 Outdoor Softball season was an all First
Division clash against CPA Global Pirates. As the away team, the Flyers batted first and put
their first run on the board, which the Pirates more than matched with three of their own.
From that point on the Pirates’ defence took over the game. The Flyers’ batters were unable
to penetrate their opponent’s defence with any great success and found it difficult to drive
runners over Home Plate. The Flyers’ defence, although playing well, could not prevent the
Pirates’ batters from reaching the outfield and they scored in all their innings.
The Flyers’ offence did get going again in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring two and one run
respectively. However, the Flyers went into their last innings with an almost impossible task
to make the Pirates bat again. With only four Flyers’ batters making an appearance at the
Plate, and without a run being scored, the Pirates ran out deserved 28 – 4 winners.
Despite the low run count for the Flyers, there were good batting performances from Ray
Foster, Vics Hibbs, Dom Alfano and Captain Chris Le Lion. In the field, Beth Rosser had
an excellent game at Third Base, which was matched by Sarah Cann at Second Base. Phil
Bouchard also had a good game with the glove in his familiar Right Centre position and it
won him the Flyers’ player-of-the-match award.
