Match 1 13 May 2012 11am Pitch 2
The first outing for the Jacksons Falcons in the 2012 outdoor league was one of mixed fortunes. Bursting out of the gates and establishing an early lead, it looked as though the Falcons had the measure of their division 1 opposition both at bat and in the field, however a difficult mid-period saw the Cubs earn 15 runs to the Falcons 5 runs scored between the 3rd and 5th innings. With a total of 21 ‘walks’ taken by the Cubs during the game, the final innings saw the Falcons go into bat trailing by 12. With an almost impossible task to draw even, but a point up for grabs for finishing within 10 of the division 1 team, the three runs earned saw team celebrations in the Falcons that would have belied the score-line of 25 : 16. A bittersweet end but many positives to take away from the game. Great shows at bat for Andy Barcis and Sam Lempriere, both taking their first home runs of the Season, and in the field great interchanges between Ric Pedro, Ronnie Le Monnier, Nardine Nicolas and Teresea Lambrick saw a number of outs between 2nd and 1st base plays, with Pedro taking two outs in one play to end the game. The Falcons also welcomed their new ‘youth team’ - Sophie-Mae (16 weeks) and Jaimee Lee (4 weeks) to their first game!
